We know that The Salad has become one of the most important parts of any meal at home. It's refreshing and healthy and can give a wider variety to the meals we prepare at home. One thing that is important to know is the correct method to making the perfect dressing.
When you follow a written recipe for a dressing or vinaigrette, because of space and ease, it will usually instruct you to add all ingredients to a bowl and whisk until combined. Does this sound familiar? Have you ever been the last person to get the salad bowl and it is either too salty or very vinegary and not very flavourful?
There are tons of great recipes for dressing but here is the method for adding the ingredients that will give you "the perfect dressing."
First add to your bowl the vinegar, salt and pepper, and which ever flavouring you are adding to the dressing (i.e. herbs, garlic, chili peppers onions etc.). Whisk this mixture very well until the salt has dissolved and the vinegar has taken on the flavours of the herbs and so on. Then while whisking, slowly add the oil, be it vegetable or olive oil, in a slow and steady stream until fully incorporated. If you apply this to your favourite dressing recipe you will subtly change the flavour to be even more enhanced and well balanced. If you add the oil to the mixture before whisking the salt, the flavours like the salt and herbs become coated in the oil. This lessens the flavours to develop or dissolve throughout the whole dressing and not allow your dressing to reach its fullest potential. I challenge you to try this with your dressings. Make it using the old method and the new method and do a taste test. I will almost certainly think you will like the new method and without changing any of the flavours, you'll love just how you incorporate them and at what stage.
