This is my favourite part of the whole holiday celebration meal. If I could have a plate full of stuffing and hit all my food groups I would be first in line!
The stuffing can be a corner stone for your turkey dinner. There are so many things you can do to flavour the stuffing, and I say, "Go wild!" This does not mean you have to reinvent your tried-and-tested stuffing recipe. I suggest a simple change it up tip. I like to use dried fruit or chopped fresh fruit for more moisture. I will use both dried and fresh herbs depending on the desired flavour and strength of flavour (fresh herbs being a more delicate addition). Mushrooms are a perfect addition to the stuffing. It adds texture and moisture; I would fry them up in a little olive oil and herbs until golden. They add the perfect earthy addition that marries so well with turkey and any fruit addition to the stuffing. Of course, sautéed chopped bacon, proscuitto or ham will add an extra rich flavour that I think would please many people.
Another suggestion is to sauté a bunch of mushrooms and onions that are then mixed with cranberries, brie cheese, thyme, sage and this basic bread stuffing recipe [1] to make the perfect accompaniment for any turkey and any stuffing connoisseur.
I invite you to see some of our other stuffing recipes [2] we have created as a further guide to changing up your stuffing this holiday season.
