When I was a kid, my mother (who was born and raised in Kitchener) dragged us to the Oktoberfest Parade every year, which explains my severe hatred for parades! I did not develop the same hatred for Sausages and Sauerkraut. They are one of my comfort foods. Some people do not like the sourness of sauerkraut so I have a recipe that uses caramelized onion and peppers to sweeten up the dish and cut some of that acidic taste.

Oktoberfest is a celebration of culture, German culture, great beer and even better food! Although I love sausages, sauerkraut and pretzels there is so much more to experience. The flavours and aromas of Oktoberfest, scream fall; rich and hearty sauerbraten with bread dumplings and red cabbage, is comfort food at its best! Sauerbraten (sour roast) is a pretty common dish in Germany.
