Sasha loves to bake and wanted to create something wonderful for Halloween! In keeping with the Halloween party theme the cupcake recipe below is the fruit of her labour and a perfect addition to any Halloween party for the young or old.

She decided to do two versions, one basic moist and delicious chocolate cupcake, for the kids and one that had some lovely spices added for a more adult taste. You will have to read on to see what they are.

I picked Caitrin up from basketball practice late last night, only to be told she needed to bring a treat for her class Halloween party in the morning. So off we went to Sobeys to find a simple, quick nut free treat Caitrin and I could pull together rather quickly. Just steps inside the store we had our answer. There were bags of Compliments Junior Disney Beyond the Orchard Gala Apples on sale and right beside them were candy and caramel apple kits. The apples were a nice size, not too big and the candy apple kit was super convenient, especially at nine o’clock at night.

We were talking at work the other day about Halloween and how it’s changed over the years, we used to make our own treats to hand out, things like popcorn balls and toffee apples. I doubt anyone hands out homemade treats any more, in fact I know some parents that do not let their kids go door to door they have a dress up party for them. As a kid, I loved Halloween, my mom would sew our costumes, one year my older brother was Batman and I was Robin we looked so cool!

This is the time of the year when scary fun and food go hand in hand. I like to play with ideas and food and come up with recipes that are associated with an occasion and Halloween really is a time you can put your scary face. With this recipe we will really scare up some treats that the children will not only love (in a scary kind of way :) to eat, but also have a great time in the kitchen making them. I hope you have as much fun making them as we had. It really was scary :)

I’ve been brainstorming for the past week with Caitrin about what treats to make for her school Halloween party. She’s pretty keen, organized and doesn’t like to miss any holiday party! This year we came up with an idea we like to call, Ghoul Goop. We coloured vanilla pudding with green food colouring and served it in plastic piping bags tied off with elastic bands. The end result is a portable, edible, bright green bag of ghoul goop any little goblin will love slurping up!

Happy Halloween!
