With the summer winding down and harvest time here we are still trying to take advantage of the last beautiful weather. While we still make excuses to spend as little time in the kitchen and spend as much time out side as possible, we still want to be able to take advantage of the amazing ingredients that are showing up on our produce department’s shelves.

For the last week and a half, I have woken up to the sounds of fishing boats chugging around just off the beach. The fisherman are working hard hauling up traps from the deep cold waters and sending new baits in traps back down to the depths of Chance Harbour. It is lobster season here on the North Shore of Nova Scotia, and I am in heaven! There are fresh local lobsters everywhere, and the most prized Lismore lobsters are just a short drive from home. The waters are nice and cold so the lobsters are hard shelled, full and sweet this year!

I was driving into to town today with the twins on a grocery run, the sun was shining, we were singing along with the radio, the day was going well, and it was about to get better. I should have remembered, since my daffodils are in full bloom and the tulips are getting ready to burst open, that it is fiddlehead season!
