When it comes to Father's Day most Dads look forward to a day spent relaxing. In the past I have thoroughly enjoyed breakfast, coffee and the kids in bed for some father's day cuddles. This year there will be no sleeping in as I will be running my first 10k race in the Johnny Miles Running Event here in New Glasgow, NS. My training has been going well. Now that summer has arrived it's time to get outside and stay outside. Nothing pairs with sunshine and appetizers better than a cool, refreshing drink. There are lots of options for serving a crowd - sangria, rum punch and lemonade can all be made in large batches ahead of time. You could also set up a mini bar with everything needed to create custom italian sodas or bellinis. One of my family's favourites is freshly brewed iced tea. It has so much more flavour and less sugar than any you'll find in the store.

After my epic adventure with southern inspired barbecuing for my Victoria Day blog, I decided some things are better left to the pros. It's not that the mesquite Smoked Pulled Pork Sandwiches weren't delicious, they most definitely were. It just took way too long to cook. I was smoking and grilling well into the evening and it just isn't practical for everyday meals. Of course I knew what I was getting into, Jana thought I was crazy to be nursing the grill and a pork shoulder for so long.

If there was ever a day to give Mom a break from her regular routine, its Mother's Day. I can't think of a better way to celebrate your grandmother, mother, or the mother of your kids than to give them the day off from the "regular routine". Taking care of the days meals (yes breakfast, lunch and dinner), along with a couple other household chores will certainly be appreciated. Note, don't forget a card, some flowers and perhaps a small token of your affection. It is the small details and little extras, like chocolate dipped strawberries, that really show you pay attention and care.
